The fair and exhibition centre Neumünster currently consists of a conglomerate of remodellings and extensions dominated by a central hall: sym- metrically, majestic, stony. The fair wants a new, fresh congressional centre; at the same time it should be a "lighthouse project" that moves the fair into the centre of interest and generates positive impulses.
The competitiion design suggests a strategy at two levels; a new, adaptably formed meeting and congress centre in wooden construction as well as the accumulation of differently usable event platforms spread over the whole area. One of the platforms is placed above the old building and the new building and marks the overlapping of both components, together with a coloured floor reaching into the main exhibition court.
A wooden construction whose main frames are visible outside as well as inside of the building is chosen. The closed wall areas and the roof are covered with a light metal cladding which is complemented by coloured facade elements and filigree ventilation elements. The new building presents itself as a nimble supplement to the existing institution with its own character.
